Sports Nutrition Counseling

Balancing food to fuel your performance, nourish your body and satisfy your appetite while maintaining an appropriate weight can be a challenge. Many people expect to lose weight when they commit to a routine exercise or training program. However, the reality is just the opposite. Many individuals actually gain weight. Studies show that people tend to overestimate the amount of calories that they burn during exercise and underestimate their caloric intake.

At our Arlington Virginia location, we offer Metabolic Testing. This is a simple 10 minute breath test. During the test, the air you breathe out is analyzed to determine exactly how much oxygen your body consumed. There is a direct relationship between oxygen use and calories burned which is how your metabolic rate is determined. Knowing your metabolic rate allows us develop a plan to maximize the amount of food that you can eat and achieve an appropriate weight.

Individual, group and team sports nutrition counseling is available at both our Reston and Arlington offices. Recreational athletes and competitive sports athletes gain valuable education into practical sports nutrition with recommendations on fueling for practice, competition and recovery. Our nutritional programs are individualized for your unique needs and particular sport. We also consider any special dietary needs or requests such as vegetarian and vegan diets.

Let's discuss your performance foods that promote
wellness and success.

Food First!
Sports Nutrition FoodsPlanning and designing a diet safely supplies engergy and proper nutrients. Read Labels! ONLY FOODS have a Nutrition Facts Label. Labels make it easier to understand portions, requirements and uses. Dietary supplements have a Fact and Disclaimer Label. Example; [Fact] This product has not been evlauated by the FDA. [Disclaimer] This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.
Foods are Regulated - Suppliments Are Not:
Sports Nutrition FoodsThe United States government strictly regulates foods for their ingredients, additives, manufacturing practices, their safety and packaging. Supplements Are NOT Required to be registered nor are they required to obtain a pre-market approval by the FDA. So, while the suppement "sounds" good, most of us are not chemist and can't descypher the "under lying" ingredients.
Endurance Sport Tip:
Sports Nutrition FoodsFor endurance sports it is wise to consume a source of carbohydrate during your exercise, such as a sports drink or a banana. A low-fat meal will empty from the stomach faster than a high-fat meal, so be sure to eat a low-fat meal before exercise. Hydrate for performance! Being well hydrated will help you feel engergized and alert. Choose the right drink at the right time. Avoid sports drinks unless you are replacing fluid and electrolytes lost through sweating.
